Propoxyphene is manufactured by Eli Lilly it is classified in the opioid family and is used to treat very mild pain similar to codeine. The actual drug name is Dextropropoxyphene. Trade-names include Darvocet-N and Di- Gesic and Darvon with APAP. Propoxyphene is habit forming or in other words has the potential for abuse as well as addiction however mildly that may be.
It can be used for opiate withdrawal for instance if someone is trying to stop using vicodin at home propoxyphene could be used to alleviate withdrawal. It has very little effect on mental cravings; however it is thought to be very effective in alleviating physical withdrawal effects, like stomach or muscle cramps. If one does intend to try this they should understand that to quit using drugs in this fashion is very difficult to say the least because like I indicated eariler the mental cravings will still occur. It can however be done I am living proof of that however this is not how I got clean the last time.
Propoxyphene also works very well for restless leg syndrome. Dr’s do not prescribe it as often as they did in the old days because it is a very weak pain reliever. I have tried about every way in the book to stop using drugs but this is one I have never heard of until recently. It does sound like it could potentially work for some addicts so if this sounds good to you give it a try.
If it does not work for you there is always treatment available and this I know for certain works if a person is truly ready to quit using but again one must be ready because it will take action in order for one to get clean.
Good luck
